The History of the Great Hopewell Culture

The Origin of the Hopewell culture started around 200 B.C and would introduce many different historical structures. The Hopewell culture spread all the way throughout the midwest causing these different social structures to migrate within each other. This period would also be considered a rather peaceful time in Native history.  There isn't any solid evidence that would prove how the Hopewell culture came into existence, this caused the Native Americans to thrive off of these different civilizations. This culture would expand into different branches such as artwork and the creation of earth mounds.

Artwork

The Hopewell culture thrived off of there artwork. Most of the artwork would be about different spiritual figures and environmental symbols. This would give historians a better picture of what the culture thought religiously. The different spiritual figures would be related back to the environment and respect for it. These pieces of artwork would also mostly be apart of some type of burial. Such as putting wood crafted symbols on the person gravestone. The Hopewell culture created these different pieces of artworks with many unique materials such as shark teeth, bones, freshwater pearls, and many other different materials.    

Earth Mounds 

The Hopewell were very enthralled with the idea of earth mounds and their spiritual connection. It is said that one of their famous mounds taken place Newark Ohio is a lunar observatory and is said to be perfectly aligned with the sun and moon. A lot of the mounds were considered to be burials and would also have a social structure to them. Higher ranked officials would be buried in a more discreet location. Precious materials would be found in the mounds as well such as copper silver and obsidian. Some of the mounds created by the Hopewell would be the size of 100 football fields.

Conclusion

The Hopewell culture has developed a very efficient society. As gained by this post it is known that the Hopewell culture is a very religious civilization. The Artwork created by the culture would mostly have spiritual meaning towards an environmental figure and would be commonly be placed on burials. The mounds that the Hopewell have created provided both a spiritual burial ground and would also be a lunar observatory. The Hopewell culture was considered to be a very advanced societal revelation in the Native American culture. The Stereotype that Native Americans built off of white culture is a very false statement show by the evidence above. Foreign people only brought violence to the Natives time of peace.
