From Crossing The Bering Land Bridge

There are many ideas of how the first settlers in America have come from. Some say the Vikings, the land bridge, even settlers from China. We cannot rule one to be the correct reason because each one has prime evidence that they were here at some period of time.

Before humans lived and were in the Americas, the region was in an Ice Age. All the land was inhabitable due to the amount of ice. However, as time went on that ice would soon melt and the land would be inhabitable. Thus comes to the question: Who was here first? This blog will take a look at the many stories of the first tribe here and why it is the most logical case of the first people here.

Siberia And The Bering Land Bridge

The first group that suggests they were the first ones here was lead to have come from Siberia (or Present Day Russia). The group used the Bering Land Bridge which was a strip of land at the time that connects Eurasia to the New World near Alaska. This land bridge lasted from the end of the last Ice Age to about 10,000 years ago until the strip was overtaken by water. One scholar says "The first people who arrived in Beringia were probably small, highly mobile groups evolving in a large landscape, probably depending on the availability of seasonal resources." (Bourgeon) As a result of this idea of transportation, we can make an argument to say these people from Siberia were the first to inhabit this land.

Rough Terrain

Based on many studies and artifacts found it is shown that the terrain in the new world was quite rough. Present day Alaska was covered with many mountains and even the start of the Rockie Mountains. However, when wanting to move inward in the new land there seemed to only be one way. Many artifacts and locations can lead one to say these groups of people traveled south along the coast. This is a great idea because the coast was an easier and more efficient way of travel. Many artifacts have been discovered along this route and thus our assumption and ideas of their migration can be a reality.

Conclusion
In the end, no matter the result and information, there are still many ideas in who the first settlers in the New World were and where they came from. There is just simply not enough information in all aspects and ways you can prove your point. However, with that being said I feel that the Siberian group is the best one to believe and represent. All facts of the area and locations make sense. Based on the time period this idea mentions many of the true qualities that the terrain held as well as the amount of ice that was present. With Artifacts discovered in a specific location, it makes a pathway into how they may have traveled and how they may have lived. Thus the first people in the New World, in my opinion, are the migrants from Siberia that have crossed the land bridge and made a new home.
